Toddlers learn in bursts. Five focused minutes of tap-and-say beats thirty minutes of background video — because attention, not exposure, drives language.
Why short wins
- Attention span is real: 2-4 minutes per year of age is normal. A 3-year-old gives you ~10 minutes at best.
- Repetition sticks: the same 8 words daily for a week beats 50 words once.
- No crash: short sessions end before overstimulation — no meltdown when it stops.
The routine
- Same time daily — after breakfast or before bath works best.
- One category per day: Fruits Monday, Animals Tuesday.
- Stop while they still want more. Wanting more tomorrow is the habit.
